Benninghoff  Reunion Numbers Large Group of Mercer County People Here

(excerpted from the Greenville Record Argus)

The fourth annual reunion of the descendants of John Benninghoff was held at Sunset Grove, Thursday, August 25, 1927. Miss Virginia Bortz sounded the bugle call on saxaphone and about 125 relatives and friends assembled at the tables to partake of a bountiful dinner provided from the well filled baskets which had been brought. Just previous to the dinner two carrier pigeons brought from Cleveland by Earl Benninghoff were released on the grounds at 12 o'clock for a homeward flight back to Cleveland.

Following the dinner a short program was carried out. Dr. T. B. Roth gave a short address and two readings on "Fishin". The Misses Gwendolyn and Virginia Bortz favored us with several selections on violin and saxaphone. William Benninghoff drew the attention of the crowd to the Benninghoff family tree which needed a great deal of information before completion.

President, Dr. R.W. Brown, Greenville, Pa; vice president, D.W. Benninghoff, Columbiana, O; secretary, Mrs. Blanche Irwin, Greenville, Pa; assistant secretary, Miss Cora Fritz, Greenville, Pa; treasurer, Mrs. Margaret Benninghoff, Greenville, Pa.; historian, Dr. G.E. Benninghoff, Bradford, Pa.

The program was closed by a picture being taken of the reunion.

If you have a family member in this photo not identified in the above list, we need to know about it. The above list is not complete, it only is as complete as what we have names for to the present. The greatest challenge we have been faced with is positionally identifying each and every individual person in the above photo; to date only about three dozen have been so identified and are so noted in the attendance list above the photograph. If the reader can make an identification, go to the Guestbook and let us know about it. This photograph can be viewed in more detailed clarity on the next page where a closeup view can be seen. Click on Closeup Photo above. You may obtain a copy of the above photo by contacting the archivist through the Guestbook sign-in procedure. Let us know how many copies you'd like and we'll get back to you with a price, or if you like we can send you a negative and you can make as many copies as you'd like, but you must return the negative. (You can view the above in somewhat better detail by changing your computer resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution if you plan to print out copies of picture and clicking on Closeup Photo 1927 Reunion below.

Trivia Question

When looking at the row of children sitting in the front, how many boys do you count?

When looking at the row of children sitting in the front, how many girls do you count?

Does anyone know why? (PS folks; I do)

A complimentary free picture  of the above to the first family member who submits the correct answer. That person's name will be posted and properly scorned. (This offer is not being extended to my mother and one other person in the photo who I will not name). The date of this POSTING is March 1, 2000. It will be interesting to see how many days, months or years pass until a claimant steps forward.
